Advocacy Training Essentials

Publication Summary:

The incorporation of advocacy training into resident education has become increasingly important. While many residency programs have some advocacy education in their curriculum, there is not a consistent set of guidelines for training or a way to evaluate the residents during this training along the competency based milestones.

The Carolinas Collaborative combined existing resources from across our eight institutions to develop an outline of key components of advocacy education. These documents within the Carolinas Collaborative: Advocacy Training Essentials will provide a rubric for pediatric residency programs both as they develop advocacy programs and enhance existing ones. Next steps for the Carolinas Collaborative include the preparation of additional curricular components as well as the development of evaluation tools to accompany these curricula.
