Summary:

The purpose of this exploratory study was to get a sense of the rate at which suspension and expulsion
practices are used among child care providers in South Carolina as a response to children with behaviors that are difficult to manage to help inform a discussion on reducing the prevalence of these practices.

What is the prevalence of reported use of suspension and expulsion practices amongst licensed and registered child care providers in South Carolina?

Are there differences in prevalence of reported use of suspension and expulsion practices related to child care provider type (i.e., center-based or family/group child care home)?

Recommendations are provided for next steps.
